A diver is using a 15 L cylinder filled to 220 bar. Their SAC rate is 18 L/min. They plan a dive to 32 metres on air. They want to surface with a 50 bar reserve. Ignoring ascent and descent time, what is the maximum working bottom time?
That’s pretty much what Dive Theory is all about, but the four of us all aced the Instructor Examination! Then we were in the pool to demonstrate skills.
There is a crucial one that I hate, called CESA (Controlled Emergency Swimming Accent). You would use this if you were about to run out of air while your dive buddy is busy being meszurized by a Butterflyfish. What you do, is take one final big breath, then make an “ahhhh” sound as you slowly swim for 9 meters. It feels a bit ridiculous, but it’s a PADI Performance Requirement. Not quite sure how one might react in reality.
Apart from that, everything went swimmingly! Our Instructor Examinor was Janine, from nothern England. Hear it with me: “If you feel stook! Than come ast me”. She was lovely and awarded us all with high-quality paper, with colour and everyfink!
The German Course Director is worth mentioning. He trained us up for 10 days straight. On the literal surface, he was all “Ja. Very good guys”, but underwater, his non-verbal expressions made you wonder if he might be inclined to turn your air off, or perhaps slap you upon surfacing. His guidence and tutorship was awesome.
That’s it really. Within 5 working days I can teach SCUBA! I’m thinking somewhere warm…
